Is All Worcestershire Sauce Vegan?

Most Worcestershire sauce brands are not vegan-friendly. The main non-vegan ingredient that is often found in this condiment is anchovies.

But don’t worry! There are plenty of vegan Worcestershire sauce brands that you can find at the grocery store. And as a bonus, most of these brands tend to be healthier because they are clean label and free from unnecessary additives.

If you’re looking for a brand of Worcestershire sauce that is vegan, you probably need it for a recipe. Even though you can whip up a homemade version rather quickly, you might want to find a convenient store-bought vegan Worcestershire to keep in your refrigerator.

Don’t waste your time reading the labels of every Worcestershire sauce in the grocery store. This list will help you quickly find a plant-based Worcestershire sauce in a store near you!

Be sure to read the brand descriptions under the photos to get a more detailed look at what you are buying. Here I’ll list any important details about the brand’s Worcestershire sauce, including if it is gluten-free or organic.

If you are looking for a vegan gluten-free Worcestershire sauce, all products with (GF) written next to them are both vegan-friendly and gluten-free!

Remember that all ingredients are subject to change. So use this list as a helpful guide, but always read the labels before you purchase!

Annie’s

Annie's Vegan Worcestershire Sauce

Annie’s Organic Vegan Worcestershire sauce is both plant-based and certified organic! Use this flavorful condiment in any vegan dish that calls for Worcestershire, or if you want to stay away from artificial flavors, synthetic colors, preservatives, and anchovies!

Where to Buy: You can buy Annie’s Vegan Worcestershire sauce at select grocery stores, including Publix, Walmart, Sprouts, Natural Grocers, Safeway, and more. You can also buy this Annie’s product online on Amazon. But, it’s pricier this way so I don’t recommend you buy it here unless you can’t find another vegan Worcestershire.

The Wizards

The Wizards Vegan Worcestershire Sauce

The Wizards Worcestershire sauces come in two varieties, and they are both vegan! You can choose between The Wizards Organic Vegan Worcestershire sauce or the gluten-free version! If you shop at Walmart, this might be one of the only plant-based Worcestershire sauces you can find there, but you may have trouble finding the gluten-free one in stores. Luckily there are many online retailers to choose from!

Where to Buy: You can buy The Wizards Worcestershire sauce from many select grocery stores, including Kroger and Walmart. You can also purchase it online from Amazon (bulk-buy only), Instacart, and Edward & Sons.

Wan Ja Shan

Wan Ja Shan Vegan Gluten Free Worcestershire sauce

Wan Ja Shan Organic Worcestershire sauce is very affordable, vegan-friendly, and gluten-free! Depending on where you purchase this condiment, you could find it for as low as $2.98 per bottle! It’s important to consider consistency before you buy. I’ve purchased both Annie’s and Wan Ja Shan Worcestershire sauce, and Annie’s is a lot thicker than Wan Ja Shan. So if you want a Worcestershire sauce that is waterier, choose Wan Ja Shan. But if you want a thick sauce, go with another brand like Annie’s.

Where to Buy: You can buy Wan Ja Shan Worcestershire Sauce at many different stores, but it may vary by location. This condiment is sold at Kroger and affiliates (Ralphs, QFC, Dillons, etc.), Whole Foods, and Publix.

Kroger Worcestershire Sauce

Kroger Worcestershire sauce Vegan

If you have a Kroger nearby, the Kroger brand Worcestershire sauce is plant-based, even though it is not labeled. If you hop over to the Kroger website, you can read through the nutrition info. None of the ingredients stand out as being from animal sources, but they also have an allergen info section that states this product is free from crustaceans, eggs, fish, milk, and their derivatives.

So, the ambiguous ingredients like “natural flavors” would not come from any of these sources. Plus, this brand is super affordable (under $1.50 when I last checked)!

Where to Buy: You can buy Kroger brand products exclusively at Kroger. Find a Kroger near you.
